I will talk about the deforestation which upset Cole and drove his conservation efforts along with the history of log drives down the Connecticut River and how the Oxbow became the terminus of the longest log drives in the country and the spin-off pulp and packaging industry.

A talk about the community which developed on the Oxbow Island, including video clips from interviews of some of the Island's residents. Also, answers to the eternal questions: why did the island cross the river, and why did the highway cross the island?
